March 2020 Whale Watching Highlights

At the start of the month, before we learnt of what was to come, we were still operating and still able to view Auckland’s wildlife on a daily basis. We were lucky to see the false killer whales again, which makes three sightings over the February-March period. This is pretty amazing as before 2020, we’d only ever had 6 sightings of this enigmatic species!

Talking of ‘killer whales’, on one of our last trips of the month, we saw a group of 4 orca with the pod made up of 3 adult males and 1 female. It is almost like they knew and had come to wish us farewell.

Of course, we can’t forget about our resident common dolphins and Bryde’s whales who we, as always, were able to watch feeding, socializing and travelling throughout the month.

We’re already looking forward to being able to get back out onto the water and catching up with the Hauraki Gulf’s marine wildlife, hopefully it won’t be too far away! Until then, stay safe and stay home kiwis!
