We're a Globally Recognised Responsible Whale Watching Operator!

Long term followers and our passengers will know that we are passionate about looking after the environment which includes the marine mammals that we see on a daily basis.

So, we are pleased to announced that we have gained global recognition as a Responsible Whale Watching Operator by the World Cetacean Alliance. This is the only global certification for whale and dolphin watching tourism agreed on at an international standard for responsible whale watching.

Who are the World Cetacean Alliance?

They are the world’s largest network of experts on whale and dolphin watching including whale watch tour operators, NGOs, scientists, and educators. All partners are focused on a respectful, responsible and sustainable whale watching tourism.

What does responsible whale watching mean?

“Responsible whale watching manages the potential impacts to the animals that are being watched, and allows the animals to determine the nature and duration of interactions as much as possible”

International Whaling Commission

Responsible whale watching means that both the operator and the passenger are conscious of the requirement for whale watching to have a minimal negative impact on the animals and the need for it to be beneficial the animals, the passengers, the operator and the local community.

Our WCA certification means that we have been recognised for our utmost care for local wildlife, sustainability and our customer experience. The certification is based on the WCA’s Global Guidelines for Responsible Whale and Dolphin Watching which is overseen by an international panel with specialist knowledge.

What does it mean for me?

It means that you can be confident in us and what we stand for, which is to help you discover the beauty of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park whilst being respectful of the marine wildlife within it.

Are there other Responsible Whale Watching Operators?

There is an app for everything these days, including responsible whale watching! You can download the WCA’s Responsible Whale Watching App from the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android
